tuned in tuesday >> The only real revolution happens right inside of you.
Do not allow yourself to be desensitized to human suffering. Allow yourself feel the hurt. Cry and pray - ESPECIALLY THE MEN. What the media never points out is that while women and men both experience mental health issues, these mass killings are more likely than not carried out by men, most with histories of domestic violence. So for the men out there - I see you. I know we live in a society where your are forced to hide any sensitivity. You’re conditioned from a young age to be strong, always courageous, and “be a man.” You’ve been taught to “suck it up” and for this, I’m sorry. Don’t beat yourself up if you’ve not always shown up in the way you know you can. Today is a new day. It is never too late to forgive yourself and right your wrongs. I appreciate the men who are out here everyday trying to break the cycles of substance/emotional/physical/women abuse that have been passed down to them. That is revolution.
When we experience a mass shooting in the U.S.A. the conversation turns to gun laws and sometimes the taboo elephant in the room: mental health. If the shooter is white, the media paints it as a thoughtless tragedy, If the assailant is brown or black, they are labeled as a terrorist or a thug. We’ve seen this happen before and unfortunately we will see this headline again and again. This is a dark pattern in American culture. And yes, we all send our thoughts and prayers. We all feel some sense of hopelessness. The things is, we are all accomplices when it comes to humanity’s violence problem. My tax dollars directly fund the military which bombs innocent brown bodies overseas. My tax dollars directly fund the police who shoot black bodies in our own country. I am not going to stop paying my taxes though. I like the roads I drive and I like contributing to social welfare programs and education. So what do I do? I wake up everyday, acknowledge my extreme privilege and think of ways I can give some of it away. It is really disappointing how many friends I have who are crushing it in the tech or cannabis industries, yet donate ZERO time or money to help others. Y’all have time and money for your frequent vacations and brunch every weekend, but when it comes to a monthly donation to a charity suddenly you have a million excuses not to give. If you are reading this, you can afford to donate time or money to charity or political group. We have so much knowledge and resources. Choose to be empowered, not helpless.
“The only real revolution happens right inside of you.” Humanity isn’t getting worse, things are just becoming more transparent. This is a beautiful time to be alive. There are conversations taking place that weren’t happening five years ago. We are exiting the Age of Knowledge and it is our choice as a species to enter The Age of Wisdom. Question everything. Give people the benefit of the doubt. Don’t gossip. Never lie. When you’re wrong, say sorry and mean it. Refuse to be silent on issues that matter, even if they don’t directly affect you. Silence is complicity. Dig deeper and educate yourself on heavy topics. Spend your money with politics in mind. Have uncomfortable disagreements with racist relatives and friends. Show up and do the work. Remember that every person on Earth has something they can teach you. Make your very existence an act of rebellion against oppression and hate. Your life is a butterfly effect on the human race, so start living like it. 🦋
