Mastering successful communication skills is a lifelong process. Each human has unique experiences that shape the way we interact with each other. The differences in the way we express ourselves is what makes us individuals. Diversity is a beautiful thing, but it can also lead to conflict. Whether you are at work, school, or with family and friends; mindful communication skills can save you from stress, anxiety, and gossip. This week's Monday Mantra is "Practice the Three Passages." When speaking, imagine that whatever you say must pass through 3 doors. The first door: "Is this kind?" The second door: "Is this true?" The third door: "Is this necessary?" According to this metaphor, if your words can not pass through one of the doors, then your thoughts should remain in your mind.  The 3 Passages have  "been around for centuries, are attributed to Socrates and Buddhist teachings, and linked to the tenets of Christianity and the Jewish prohibition on "lashon hara," or evil language." Daily meditation on the 3 passages has drastically improved my communication. Sometimes silence is a more powerful tool than using your voice. Embracing the 3 passages has helped me become more articulate, confident and poised. Once I got into the habit of reminding myself that my words should be kind, necessary, and true; I quickly realized that much of what I was saying was unnecessary. When I am nervous or excited, I talk a million miles a minute. The 3 passages have encouraged me to be a more grounded communicator. In a world where everyone has a different way of expressing themselves,  a respectful and peaceful communication mantra can unite and inspire people. This week I encourage you to try The 3 Passages for yourself and see how it makes you feel. Thank you for reading this week's Monday Mantra! Have an amazing week ~ xx Rachael Arias
